Anaerobiospirillum spp
From Felipedia
Anaerobiospirillum spp are motile, spiral-shaped, gram-negative, anaerobic rods that have been associated with bacterial disease in cats.
This genus is recognised as a normal commensal in the feline intestinal tract[1]. These bacteria can often been seen on direct fecal smears, especially in diarrhoeic patients.
Ileocolitis associated with Anaerobiospirillum spp has been reported in 6 cats[2]. Three cats were presented with gastrointestinal signs characterised by vomiting or diarrhoea, one cat was presented with an acute onset of anorexia and lethargy, and two cats has no clinical or systemic signs related to the gastrointestinal tract. Cause and effect was suspected; however, controlled challenge infection of susceptible cats with feline Anaerobiospirillum spp coupled with detailed pathological investigations is needed to confirm the enteropathogenicity of this bacteria to associate it with enterocolitis[3].
